Photo Friday Theme – Plant Kingdom
I had to go back in my archives as the plant kingdom around me is dormant as winter approaches. This is from our family trip to Key West in May 2013 where we stopped to visit the Hemingway House. Now I have been here many times before and I didn’t come back for the beautiful lush landscape with tropical trees and flowers, no I came back with Megan to visit with the six toe kitties that roam Ernest Hemmingway’s estate. I want to look at all the things that inspired him while Megan makes some new furry friends….
“Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.”
Photo Friday Theme – Winter’s Reach
“Winter is Coming” one of my favorite sayings from Game of Thrones, and a good reminder to be prepared. The past week a huge snow storm had cause chaos across the midwest with freezing temperatures and lots of snow. We ended up just within the winter’s reach with a light snow followed by sleet. This morning we woke up to our long, steep driveway looking like a huge sheet of ice! After an hour of John laying salt he was able to venture to work.
I stayed home and watched my dog try to skate across the backyard and later in the day ice was crashing down from all the trees around us. It definitely startled Bailey and me!
Winter is just around the corner but has definitely reached out to remind us its on they way!
Photo Friday Theme – Fiery
A great memory from my daughter’s 21st birthday celebration in Key West.
A beautiful sailboat, the fiery sunset and Sunset Key with a little Instagram manipulation.
Photo Friday Theme – In The Wild
John loves to hike and he knows I love photography so we decided to do a photo hike in a new area out by Long Valley called Hacklebery State Park. It was a good hike especially along the Black River where you were climbing over rocks. I didn’t love the uphill climbs as it reminded me how out of shape I am. We stuck to the hike along the water but there were definitely miles and miles of wilderness around. I always try to imagine how the first explorers felt when first exploring different places.
After our hike, we stopped off at the Cider Mill Farms for some homemade goodies and coffee. Lovely family place!
Photo Friday Theme – Autumn 2013
I was going down the hill to do my errands and decided to make stops along the way to take some Autumn shots. This is the Rockaway River that runs through Boonton and Denville. I love how still the water is right to the edge of the dam and the colorful leaves caught in the falling water.
Photo Friday Theme – Heavenly
This photo was taken on the last trip down to Florida. I always ponder heaven when I get a view like this.
You can’t help but feel a little closer since you are far away from your little spot in the world.
photo friday theme – lonesome
The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.
photo friday theme – huge
When the spring had finally hit our area, it brought new blooms and the local wildlife….
including the ”Split Rock Bear.”
The word that we use when we speak of him is HUGE…
Now he was quite the gentle giant – slowly lumbering around my neighbor’s yard in search for food.
After this picture was taken, he took the neighbor’s trash can sprawling himself out on the lawn and dining like a king.
He has appeared a few times (including taking out our garbage one morning!)
I hear rumors that they are trying to trap and relocate him…
I sure hope he evades them and makes it to his hibernation spot.
photo friday theme – mirror
We had our friends visiting from California, so we made arrangements to visit the 9/11 memorial.
This photo was taken of John outside of the 9/11 Museum Pavilion.
A strong reflection while we were all reflecting the loss, strength and resilience
of our country at a time of adversity.
